German drone delivery provider Wingcopter has received an order for its “Wingcopter 198” drone from German logistics and aviation holding Zeitfracht Group and its subsidiary German Airways. The companies have ordered 17 drones initially, with the option to order an additional 115 drones in two tranches by the end of 2023.
The companies plan to deploy the drones from Rostock Airport, a part of Zeitfracht Group, in 2H2024, initially for off-shore deliveries such as delivering spare parts to wind farms. The airport will also act as a testing ground for Wingcopter.

Analyst QuickTake: Wingcopter was in the news earlier this week as well, when it received funds from and partnered with Japanese trading company ITOCHU. Previously, the company has conducted several local delivery trials in partnership with organizations including Merck and the Frankfurt University of Applied Science for inter-office deliveries (February 2020) , Greifswald University Hospital, and German air ambulance service DRF Luftrettung for blood sample deliveries (September 2021). Furthermore, its peer Matternet has also conducted delivery trials in Germany.
