Umiami, a French plant-based meat startup, has raised USD 30 million in a Series A funding round led by Astanor Ventures with multiple other participating investors, including the French government through BPI France’s French Tech Seed Fund. The company claims the funding round is Europe’s largest-ever Series A round.
As per the company, the funds will be channeled to scale the industrial production processes of its plant-based chicken products. A new R&D center near Paris is set to open next month to aid in the process of industrialization. To accommodate anticipated demand for plant-based chicken, another factory is slated to be completed next year. Umiami plans to produce 15,000 tons of meat by 2025, which will be sold on a B2B basis.
