Better Origin raises USD 16 million in series A funding

Funding

  • Better Origin, a British startup that upcycles food waste into animal feed, has raised over EUR 14.6 million (~USD 16 million) in a Series A funding round led by Balderton Capital. Existing investors Fly Ventures and Metavallon VC also joined the round.

  • The funds are expected to be used to further develop its mini-insect farm and associated technology while tripling the size of its team. Better Origin is also looking to expand internationally with an aim to enter Europe this year. In addition, the company plans to expand its focus beyond poultry to serve other new livestock areas and potentially produce upcycled human food.

  • Better Origin reports that it has signed a deal with Morrisons UK to supply 10 insect mini-farms to feed chickens at the latter’s egg farms by September 2022.
