The Dutch Government has announced that it has earmarked EUR 60 million (~USD 65 million) for the development of the local cellular agriculture industry. This is part of the Netherlands’ five-year (2023–2028) EUR 20 billion National Growth Fund for high-growth emerging industries and is reportedly the largest investment into cellular agriculture made by a government globally.
The funding was proposed by Cellular Agriculture Netherlands, a consortium of universities, NGOs, and value chain partners including Meatable, Mosa Meat, and Unilever, who plan to propose additional funding of EUR 252–382 million in the future.
The initial phase of the funding will focus on increasing R&D activities, scaling cellular agriculture facilities, and improving education and awareness of the cell-cultured agriculture market.
