CellMEAT raises USD 8.1 million in Series A funding

Funding

  • CellMEAT, a South Korea-based cell-cultured meat startup developing animal-free protein, has raised KRW 10 billion (USD 8.1 million) in a Series A funding round, bringing the total raised to USD 14.1 million. Investors NaulB, BNK Venture Capital, Strong Ventures, and Ryukyung PSG Capital participated in the round.

  • The funds will support continued R&D efforts on lab-grown shrimp, doubling its pilot production capacity to 10kg per day for its prototype shrimp product, and expanding its cultivated seafood offering beyond shrimp to include lobsters and crabs.

  • CellMEAT also plans to expand to Singapore and commercialize its cultivated meat products by early 2023 targeting B2B and B2C customers. It also plans to enter the US following expansion into the Asian market.
