UBQ Materials, an Israel-based company that develops bio-based thermoplastic materials, has partnered with Teknor Apex, a US-based multinational chemical compounds company, to supply UBQ’s bio-based thermoplastic material called “UBQ” for the latter’s line of sustainable thermoplastic elastomers (TPE).
Standard TPE is a compound that is similar to rubber and is used across the automotive, industrial, construction, and consumer goods industries. The sustainable TPE compound would consist of UBQ and post consumer recycled raw materials. The two companies have been co-developing UBQ incorporated TPE prototypes over the past year and are now expecting to introduce a cost-competitive TPE compound to the market in 2022.
The company reports that this partnership marks the first time UBQ will be used to produce TPE compounds.
