Hyundai Motor has launched the “NorCAL ZERO Project,” an initiative that aims to bring zero-emission freight transportation to the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Valley in California. The project aims to reduce carbon emissions by over 24,000 metric tons through the deployment of hydrogen fuel-cell technology.
Partners of the NorCAL ZERO Project include various private and public entities including the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), GLOVIS America, East Bay Municipal Utilities District, FirstElement Fuel (FEF), Papé, and the University of California.
Under the project, the company has rolled out 30 “8 XCIENT Fuel Cell," hydrogen-powered trucks in California. The delivery is reportedly the largest commercial deployment of Class 8 hydrogen-powered fuel-cell electric trucks in the US.
