Daimler unveils autonomous battery electric 'Freightliner eCascadia' trucks

Product updates

  • Daimler Truck has partnered with its autonomous trucking subsidiary, Torc Robotics, to unveil Daimler Truck's first autonomous, battery electric (BEV) Freightliner eCascadia truck.

  • The truck integrates Torc Robotics’ autonomous driving software and Level 4 sensor and computing technology, which would facilitate Level 4 autonomous driving (i.e., fully autonomous vehicles limited to specific locations or conditions).

  • The technology is reportedly still in the R&D stage, but it has the potential to evolve into a modular, scalable platform for various trucking applications.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The new autonomous applications of Freightliner eCascadia trucks would enable the product to expand its BEV customer base. As of April 2024 , Daimler’s Freightliner eCascadia trucks and medium-duty eM2 trucks are operational in over 50 fleets across the US.
