Tesco partners with Arla and Muller to transform UK dairy sustainability practices

Partnerships

  • UK retailer Tesco has partnered with dairy suppliers Arla and Muller to launch the "Future Dairy Partnership," which aims to transform the sustainability of the dairy sector.

  • The partnership will involve all 400 of Tesco's Sustainable Dairy Group farmers and focuses on reducing on-farm emissions by 30% by 2030. Key initiatives include testing methane-reducing feed additives, implementing nature-friendly farming methods, and developing a sustainable dairy blueprint for farmers.

  • The collaboration will also produce an industry-wide report on sustainable dairy pathways, provide financial support for sustainability goals, and invite other organizations across the dairy industry to join the initiative.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Recently, Cargill invested USD 1 million in research to reduce methane emissions from cattle. Furthermore, Ajinomoto and Danone partnered to create novel feed additives to curb methane output. These developments underscore a growing commitment among leading players to innovate solutions that align with environmental goals and the evolving expectations for sustainable food production.
