 <p>Infinium, a developer of low-carbon electrofuels (e-fuels), and SMA Mineral, a Swedish lime and limestone producer, have partnered to develop the former's e-fuels project at the Mo Industripark in Mo i Rana, in Norway.</p>

<p>HIF Global, a sustainable e-fuels provider, has secured an investment of USD 164 million in a funding round led by Japanese energy company Idemitsu Kosan and participated by its existing shareholders such as AME, EIG, Porsche, Baker Hughes, and Gemstone Investments. This raises HIF Global's total funding to USD 424 million.</p>
<p>This funding round, orchestrated by Idemitsu, completes the initial phase of the four-part collaboration that was announced in <a href="https://hifglobal.com/docs/default-source/documentos-noticias/chile/hif-idemitsu-strategic-cooperation-agreement.pdf?sfvrsn=d9d7ef33_1"> April 2023 </a>. The collaboration encompasses investment, e-fuels purchasing, development of e-fuels markets in Japan, and the establishment of CO2 supply chains.</p>
<p>The raised capital will be leveraged to accelerate the development of HIF Global's e-fuel projects in multiple global locations, including the US, Australia, Chile, and Uruguay. The firm is currently producing e-fuels at its Haru Oni eFuels facility in Magallanes, Chile and is set to commence building the HIF Matagorda eFuels facility in Texas by the end of 2024.</p>

HIF Global raises USD 164 million in corporate funding

<p>British firm C-Capture has teamed up with Heidelberg Materials, a UK manufacturer of building supplies, for a trial of a new carbon capture system at a Ketton cement plant. It forms part of the startup's XLR8 carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, which sets out to prove that carbon capture is a practical, affordable option for industries which emit a high amount of carbon.</p>

 <p>Climeworks, a Swiss direct air capture (DAC) startup, has introduced its second DAC plant, known as Mammoth, in Hellisheidi, Iceland. This plant is the world's largest DAC plant so far.</p>
 <p>The new plant is capable of capturing up to 36,000 tons of CO2 every year, making it nine times larger than its predecessor, the Orca plant, which could capture 4,000 tons of CO2 per annum.</p>
 <p>Capturing its first batch of CO2 has commenced at the plant. At the moment, 12 of the 72 collector containers are installed onsite. Completion of the plant is expected by the end of 2024.</p>
 <p>Mammoth operates using renewable geothermal energy, which directly captures CO2 from the air using low-temperature heat. The plant's geothermal energy partner, ON Power, supplies the necessary energy. After the CO2 is separated from the filters, it is transported underground by the carbon sequestration partner Carbfix, where it is naturally transformed into stone through a reaction with basaltic rock.</p>

 <p>The start of this installation represents the first stage of assembly. The CaptureX technology offered by Carbon Clean is set to capture approximately 70,000 tons of biogenic CO2 annually once the project is functional at Ørsted’s facility located in Sweden.&nbsp;</p>
 <p>The operational goal for the project is set for 2025, with an anticipated production of up to 55,000 tons of methanol annually. This methanol will be utilized for vessels, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon emissions, projected to be approximately 94%.&nbsp;</p>

 <p>Deep Sky, a carbon removal project developer based in Canada, is collaborating with Icelandic carbon sequestration company, Carbfix. Their combined efforts will investigate possible mineral CO2 storage solutions in Canada.</p>
 <p>The partnership will conduct a pre-feasibility study on potential CO2 mineral storage reservoirs in Quebec. The study will analyse the geology and geochemistry of the location and carry out laboratory work on ultramafic rock formations.</p>
 <p>The joint venture aims to assess the capability of these rock formations to safely and permanently store CO2 by converting it into stone below the surface. Deep Sky is entrusted with leading the development of large-scale carbon removal and storage infrastructure in Canada.</p>

This agreement aims to upscale the capture and sequestration of biogenic CO2 at pulp and paper mills located in the US and Canada.</p>

<p>Through this partnership, biogenic carbon capture projects will be developed, involving the ones currently in CO280's pipeline as well as potential new projects. The collaboration will extensively make use of CO280's expertise to develop an efficient process for determining the feasibility of carbon capture at pulp and paper mills. It will also utilize facilities provided by Aker Carbon Capture, such as the modularized Just Catch series. </p>

<p> The partnership will also put to use Microsoft's robust digital capabilities, cloud computing platforms and solutions for the standardization of lifecycle assessment (LCA) along with measurement, verification, and reporting (MRV) systems specifically designed for carbon capture projects. </p>

<p>Moreover, a digital tool will be developed by the companies, which will facilitate the comparison of CO280 Solutions's upcoming projects against the high-quality carbon removal criteria set by Microsoft.</p>

 <p>Swiss company Climeworks has introduced a service, Climeworks Solutions, that offers carbon removal portfolios in addition to its primary direct air capture (DAC) carbon removal service. This new service combines engineered and natural techniques such as reforestation, biochar, bioenergy with carbon capture, and enhanced weathering. The company also provides third-party verification and in-depth due diligence for these carbon removal portfolios.</p>
 <p>Climeworks states that this expansion was motivated by an increase in customer demand and a need to scale up the carbon removal industry. Alongside this new service, Climeworks announced a 12-year agreement with its first customer, Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling, which will include the use of Climeworks' DAC technology and enhanced weathering.</p>
