Ansel Health is an insurance technology company that aims to alleviate the financial burden of health hardships through supplemental health insurance plans. The company’'s offerings are designed to cover over 13,000 conditions, providing cash benefits directly upon diagnosis without the need for hospitalization. This approach ensures that beneficiaries receive timely financial support for a wide range of health conditions, from moderate to catastrophic, without the traditional barriers often encountered in the claims process.

A key feature that distinguishes Ansel's offering is the absence of requirements of accidents or hospitalizations to qualify for payouts, ensuring broader coverage for members. Additionally, Ansel has streamlined the insurance experience by introducing claims automation. This technology uses medical claims data to automatically provide benefits to members, eliminating the need for manual claim filing.

Initially known as Brella, Ansel rebranded itself in 2024 to emphasize its protective role for its members against unforeseen health events. The company collaborates with established insurance carriers, extending its services to tens of millions of Americans and their families across 39 states.

Key customers and partnerships

Ansel Health's key customers include employers and organizations looking to offer supplemental health insurance as part of their benefits package.

The company collaborates with leading insurance carriers and benefits brokerage firms to provide its modern supplemental insurance solutions, aiming to make them available to employees across the country. In February 2024, Ansel Health partnered with Voya Financial to introduce a supplemental health product called Voya Protect. Voya Protect offers benefits for over 13,000 described health conditions. The service aims to reduce the financial stress associated with out-of-pocket medical expenses for many Americans.

Funding and financials

In January 2024, Ansel Health raised USD 20 million in a funding round led by Portage. The round saw participation from participants such as Two Sigma Ventures, Brewer Lane Ventures, SixThirty Ventures, Plug and Play Ventures, Digitalis Ventures, Symphony AI, Operator Partners, Morgan Creek Capital Management, and others. The proceeds from this funding round were to be used to expand the reach of Ansel Health's modern supplemental insurance solution to employees across the country.
