Bollinger Motors develops class 3–6 electric truck platforms for OEMs to build different truck models on top of it. The company was also offering light-duty EV platforms previously and was taking preorders for the same at one point. However, it announced in January 2022 that it would be postponing the production and deliveries to focus on commercial trucks. The pre-order deposits were also returned.
In July 2023, Bollinger announced plans to invest USD 44 million to develop a manufacturing plant in Livonia, Michigan and to expand its Oak Park headquarters. During the same month, the company launched the design validation pilot builds of its all-electric B4 Class 4 chassis cabs. Bollinger also planned to conduct demonstrations of the initial pilot builds for selected partners in September 2023 and expects to commence deliveries of the B4 unit in 2024.
Key customers and partnerships
In December 2021, Bollinger entered into a strategic partnership with EAVX, a business unit of the commercial automotive and manufacturing goods and services provider JB Poindexter & Co. The deal was aimed at integrating the latter’s truck bodies with Bollinger’s platforms. Bollinger has partnered with the contract manufacturer Roush to assemble its truck platforms and chassis cabs for commercial vehicles. In September 2022, the company partnered with Wabash, a truck body and trailer manufacturer, to develop a refrigerated truck body on electric chassis.
Funding and financials
In September 2022, Mullen Automotive, a California-based automotive and electric vehicle manufacturer, acquired Bollinger Motors for USD 148.2 million in cash and stock for a 60% stake in the company.
