Beyond Leather Materials is a B2B supplier of alternative leathers produced from apple pulp, the byproduct of juice and cider production. Its product is named Leap, which stands for "LEftover APples". The company claims that five kilograms of apple pulp can produce a square meter of apple leather and with colors and textures that cannot be achieved with conventional leather.
The company, which has been developing the material since 2017, stated in November 2020 that its team is working towards entering the shoe market within the next two years. Over the longer term, the company plans to obtain certificates for car seats that will last at least ten years. In May 2024, the company announced it had commenced full-scale production of its bio-based leather in Germany.
Key customers and partnerships
In June 2024, the company partnered with Veshin Factory to create products using Beyond Leather's bio-based leather alternative Leap.
Funding and financials
In July 2020, the company raised EUR 1.1 million (USD 1.24 million) in seed funding to open a manufacturing facility in its hometown of Copenhagen and to recruit more staff.
