Barvecue is a clean-label food producer specializing in plant-based bbq-style meats. The company produces a range of wood-smoked vegan meat alternatives such as Naked BVQ, Pulled BVQ, and Carnitas, using a protein blend that includes soybean and sweet potato. All Barvecue products are non-GMO project verified with products after November 2021 being gluten-free as well. In October 2024, Barvecue launched vegan bacon toppings made with US-grown ingredients, including pea protein, sweet potato, organic apple cider vinegar, expeller-pressed canola oil, and spice blends.
In March 2021, the company opened a 10,000 sq ft facility, which they claim to be the world’s largest plant-based smokehouse. Barvecue products are available at retail outlets like Sprouts Farmers Markets, Safeway, Lowes Food, Earth Fare, and Texas-based Central Markets, online, and food service outlets.
Key customers and partnerships
In April 2021, the company partnered with Cheney Brothers to distribute Barvecue products at US college campuses, starting with Elon University, with plans of distributing to additional colleges and university food service locations. In September 2022 , the company partnered with protein producer Arbiom to improve the taste, texture, and nutritional profile of clean-label plant-based meats. Barvecue partnered with Juice Press in October 2022 to launch vegan menu items across Juice Press locations in New York City.
