Imagia develops and manufactures optical lenses using metamaterial principles that are scalable and compatible with standard light sources like LEDs. The metalenses are thin, single-layer lenses that offer a broadband frequency response, which the company claims can replace an entire stack of traditional bulk optics, offer improved optical coupling, preserve brightness, and reduce signal disruptions. Furthermore, the use of metalens technology in prototype testing showcased over a 90% volume reduction for AR glasses and holographic display systems. By using nanoimprint fabrication methods and CMOS-compatible materials, the company offers custom solutions for imaging and display systems while enabling cost-effective production of custom lenses at scale.

Funding and financials

In April 2023, Imagia raised USD 4.5 million in a seed funding round led by Gates Frontier. The company noted that funding received will speed up the progress and early commercial release of the initial version of its flat, silicon-based optical lenses.
