Assembly OSM is a developer of prefabricated multifamily residential units and commercial buildings. Assembly buildings are developed using an integrated system of manufactured components and sub-assemblies, i.e., different components like the chassis, facades, walls, and floors, are developed as individual modules by several pre-qualified component fabricators and sub-module manufacturers. The components and sub-modules are then assembled at the New Jersey factory and delivered to the site to be stacked by a network of general contractor partners. The modules can be developed in different unit sizes and layouts, allowing the company to offer fully-customized building layouts. Assembly leverages digital twin technology to develop a conceptual framework for each module, reducing cost by tracking each component that goes into a module. The company claims that its buildings have 30%–40% less embodied carbon than traditional buildings and that its construction sites cut emissions by 60%–70%.
Assembly’s first completed unit was unveiled in October 2021 in the New York City area. As of July 2022, the company was engaged in feasibility studies across several cities including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and St. Louis.
Funding and financials
In July 2022, Assembly raised USD 38 million in Series A funding, bringing the total funding raised to over USD 60 million. The company did not disclose how the new funds would be utilized.
