Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) is a global payments network that offers digital payments across 200+ countries (as of Q2 FY2023). Visa is the leader in the US payment processing market, in terms of transaction value , having surpassed the milestone of USD 2 trillion in 2021. Visa’s USD 7.9 billion IPO in 2018 was considered the largest IPO in US history at that time. It generated USD 29.3 billion in revenue in FY2022 (year ending September 30).
Visa generates revenue from four primary sources: services, data processing, international transactions, and other revenue. Service revenue includes revenue from services provided to support the usage of Visa's payment services. Data processing revenue is derived from authorization, clearing, settlement, value-added services, network access, and other maintenance and support services. International transaction revenue is earned through processing cross-border transactions and other revenue encompasses value-added services; license fees for using the Visa brand or technology; and fees for account holder services, certification, and licensing.
The US is the company’s single largest market, accounting for ~44% of total revenue in FY2022, with international markets accounting for the rest. Visa’s target is to digitally enable 50 million SMBs by the end of 2023, which stood at just over 40 million by the end of 2022. Visa expects to reach net-zero emissions by 2040.
