Meat. The End (MTE), founded in 2020, is an Israeli startup that develops texturized protein ingredients (TPI) or textured vegetable proteins (TVP) and plant-based meats (burgers and nuggets) using unique extrusion processes and protein treatments (Spindle technique). The company claims its extrusion process is unique to the methods currently used by the industry. While it uses it to make its plant-based meats, the company also plans on licensing the technology to other food tech companies. MTE was selected by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology as one of the most promising startups of 2020 and filed for its first patent in 2021.
In April 2023 , MTE unveiled a burger made from texturized chickpea protein, which the company claims is the world’s first. The product will be available later in 2023.
