Finland-based Soletair Power (Soletair) develops next-generation direct air capture (DAC) technologies that absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from ventilation units inside buildings to improve air quality in offices. Soletair’s technology captures indoor CO2 and is integrated into an electrolyzer and a synthesis unit, where it gets converted to synthetic renewable fuels (Power-to-X) and hydrocarbons. Soletair offers three categories of products: 1) indoor CO2 capture unit; 2) building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) integration unit; and 3) outdoor CO2 capture unit.Key customers and partnershipsIn June 2021, Soletair Power signed a contract with Germany-based hydrogen and fuel cell research institute ZBT to install its DAC unit at ZBT’s test site in Duisburg, Germany. In June 2020, Soletair Power together with Wartsila, a Finish manufacturer of energy and marine equipment, created the first demonstration unit of Power-to-X for Dubai Expo 2020.In February 2024, Solitaire partnered with Søren Jensen Rådgivende Ingeniørfirma A/S for Building Integrated Carbon Capture (BICC) technology designs for undisclosed clients in Denmark.Funding and financialsIn March 2021, Soletair Power received an investment of EUR 1 million (USD 1.2 million) from Wartsila to scale up its DAC solution and accelerate its global sales efforts. This investment followed Wartsila’s previous EUR 500,000 (USD 600,000) investment in Soletair in April 2019.

Soletair Power is a Finnish startup founded in 2016, operating in the fields of Direct Air Capture and power-to-X technology. The company captures CO2 from the air by retrofitting buildings' ventilation systems with carbon capture technology, resulting in low building emissions. Captured carbon dioxide can be mineralized into concrete, stored as pressurized gas or liquid, transported, and used as raw materials to produce synthetic products. In 2020, Wärtsilä, together with Soletair Power and Q-Power, created their first enclosed Power-to-X unit in the world which can produce synthetic methane from air-captured CO2 straight from the Finland pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The company has delivered multiple carbon dioxide capturing units since then to Germany, Finland, and Denmark.
