Sundial Foods is a plant-based chicken producer that only uses eight ingredients such as chickpea, water, and sunflower oil to produce its chicken alternatives which include plant-based cutlets, bites, and nuggets.
The company was a participant in Nestlé’s R&D Accelerator in Lausanne, Switzerland. During the program, the startup scaled up its bench-scale testing to pilot production and co-branded a product with Nestlé’s plant-based meat brand Garden Gourmet, which was tested in 40 retail stores across Switzerland in late 2020. In April 2022, Sundial Foods initiated its gradual rollout in the US in the Bay Area and New York.
Funding and financials
In its latest funding round in November 2021, the startup raised USD 4 million in seed funding from investors such as Nestlé, Food Labs, Clear Current Capital, and SOSV / IndieBio. The startup intended to use the funding to expand its team and start production for the US launch at the Rutgers Food Innovation Center in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
