ENGIE (EPA: ENGI) is a French multinational energy company that specializes in the generation, distribution, and sale of electricity and natural gas, along with providing other energy-related services. ENGIE was formed in 2008 as a merger between Gaz de France (a state-owned enterprise) and Suez (a French company specializing in water and waste management), and was formerly known as GDF Suez. ENGIE generated revenue of EUR 82.6 billion (~USD 90 billion) in 2023.
ENGIE operates under seven business segments:
Global Energy Management & Sales segment (~45% of total revenue in 2023) engages in selling energy to businesses and provides tailor-made energy management services to support its customers' decarbonization efforts.
Retail segment (~20%) includes the sale of gas and electricity to individual customers .
Energy Solutions segment (~13%) includes the production of low-carbon energy through the construction and management of decentralized energy networks.
FlexGen segment (~6%) includes power generation activities using gas or coal.
Networks segment (~8%) encompasses activities and projects related to electricity and gas infrastructure.
Renewables segment (~7%) includes activities related to renewable energy generation, including the financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of facilities.
Nuclear & Others segment focuses on power generation using nuclear and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
ENGIE operates across 31 countries; France is its largest market (~44% of total revenue in 2023). ENGIE estimates its EBIT (excluding Nuclear operations) to range between EUR 7.5 billion and EUR 8.5 billion (~USD 8.1 billion and ~USD 9.2 billion) in 2025 (EUR 9.5 billion (~USD 10.3 billion) in 2023).
