Koidra is a startup that offers an end-to-end intelligent automation solution that functions as a data-driven decision support system for a range of industries including agriculture. For agriculture, the company’s integrated solution uses 1) an IoT suite to monitor crop growth and gather data on crops, 2) a digital twin that uses AI and sensors to control the climate necessary for plants (for indoor farming), and 3) an autopilot mode that uses machine learning to automate and optimize the plant growth process. The company has demonstrated that its product suite can improve production efficiency, yields (upto +6%), and profits (upto +17%), and reduce wastage when used in greenhouse growing conditions.

Key customers and partnerships

The company’s client base includes some of the largest greenhouse and indoor farms in North America including Soli Organic (US) and Great Lakes Greenhouses (Canada) with plans to expand its market further.

Koidra partnered with Great Lakes Greenhouses to deploy Koidra’s IoT autonomous growing tech at Great Lakes Greenhouses’ farms to support year-round production and growing crops such as cucumbers and eggplant remotely (in April 2021). Koidra partnered with Soil Organic in January 2022, for the deployment of Koidra’s AI and IoT suite for the automation of Soli Organic’s farms to improve unit economics of the farm and precise delivery of inputs to plants. In October 2023, the company Koidra partnered with Priva , a climate control company specializing in smart building automation, greenhouse technology, and indoor farming, to integrate Priva's ecosystem with Koidra's intelligent automation software.

Funding and financials

In May 2022, the company raised USD 4.5 million in seed funding led by Ospraie Ag Science (OAS) to expand the application of its products. The company was awarded a CAD 1 million (~USD 0.7 million) Homegrown Innovation Challenge grant in October 2023, for autonomous strawberry production, together with the University of Guelph and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
