Texas-based Freepoint Eco-Systems, a sub-division of Freepoint Commodities (a physical commodity merchant platform) is engaged in securing plastic waste and converting them into reusable products, using its the proven pyrolysis technology process. The company mostly focuses on recycling single-use plastic packaging across various industries including the healthcare and consumer sectors.
As of October 2021, the company has its recycling presence across North America, Europe, and Asia. Freepoint Eco-Systems claims each of its plants reduces greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of up to 450,000 cars. The company also states that its technology can divert 170 million pounds of plastic waste from landfills and requires 9,000 fewer garbage trucks per year for every facility it builds.
In order to expand its recycling technology, the company has entered into partnerships across different sectors. Examples of partnerships that gave the company access to plastic waste in the healthcare sector are Technipaq Inc (flexible sterilizable packaging solutions manufacturer) and DuPont (a mechanical and industrial engineering company that produces specialty materials) (September 2021).
The company expanded its plastic recycling presence in the US by announcing an advanced plastic recycling unit jointly with Plastic Energy and TotalEnergies , and also a commercial-scale flagship advanced plastics recycling facility , both currently under construction in Texas, slated to begin operations in 2024.
In February 2023 , Alterra announced its license arrangement with a subsidiary of Freepoint Eco-Systems for a proposed 192,000 tonnes per annum advanced plastics recycling facility in the Gulf Coast region.
