Laminar is led by its co-founders Amit Shaked (CEO) and Oran Avraham (CTO), who are both veterans of Unit 8200—an intelligence unit of the Israel Defense Forces. Laminar delivers an agentless cloud-native data protection platform for applications and services built and run on public clouds such as Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS.
The platform is specifically built for CISOs and data protection teams, allowing them to proactively discover shadow data stores, classify sensitive data, and secure data to improve their security risk posture. The platform also helps users to detect and remediate data leakages in real time without interrupting the data flow. It allows continuous monitoring of managed and unmanaged data stores and data egress channels. The company revealed that its product has been tested by hundreds of CISOs and it planned to mark its commercial debut in early 2022.
In November 2021, the company raised USD 32 million in a Series A funding round led by Insight Partners. The company was to utilize the funds to build out its engineering and go-to-market teams as well as establish a new data security research team. In June 2022, Laminar secured a USD 30 million extension to its Series A funding round from Tiger Global Management and Salesforce Ventures. The company expected to utilize the funds to build out its engineering and go-to-market teams, and establish a new data security research team.
