Ivanhoe Electric Inc. is a US-based company focused on exploring and developing electric metals projects, primarily in the US. The company uses its proprietary Typhoon geophysical surveying system, along with advanced data analytics provided by its subsidiary Computational Geosciences Inc., to accelerate and de-risk the mineral exploration process. Ivanhoe Electric's primary focus is on copper exploration, as well as other metals including nickel, vanadium, cobalt, platinum group elements, gold, and silver. The company's flagship projects include the Santa Cruz Copper Project in Arizona and the Tintic Copper-Gold Project in Utah. Ivanhoe Electric also operates a 50/50 joint venture with Saudi Arabian Mining Company Ma'aden to explore approximately 48,500 km2 of underexplored Arabian Shield in Saudi Arabia.
At the Santa Cruz Copper Project, Ivanhoe Electric has been conducting extensive drilling programs to characterize the deposit's geotechnical, hydrogeological, and metallurgical characteristics. The company is developing an Initial Assessment for Santa Cruz, which is evaluating the potential for a high-grade, modern underground copper mining operation. This assessment, scheduled for completion by the end of Q3 2023, aims to minimize the surface footprint while incorporating leading technologies to improve efficiencies and costs.
In May 2023, Ivanhoe Electric closed the acquisition of surface title and associated water rights for the Santa Cruz Project, giving the company control over surface land and mineral rights encompassing the entire project area. The company has selected Fluor Enterprises Inc. as the principal lead for the Santa Cruz Copper Project Preliminary Feasibility Study, which is expected to be completed by the end of Q2 2025.
