VoxelSensors, a company based in Belgium, specializes in developing 3D perception sensors for XR applications. The company’s flagship product is the Andromeda 2, based on the company’s “Switching Pixels Active Event Sensor" (SPAES). It offers low power consumption and minimal latency, making it suitable for outdoor environments and resistant to interference. By leveraging SPAES, VoxelSensors enables the creation of improved AR/VR/MR wearables through its tracking solutions. The "Switching Pixels" sensor architecture uses laser beam scanning to locate active laser points or structures in space. This generates 3D points, known as voxels, at a high rate of 100 MHz, delivering 3D data with low energy consumption.
The sensors are highly sensitive to single photons, allowing them to localize the laser beam's tip at a high temporal resolution, resulting in low latency depth data that is 100x faster than other technologies. The perception technology is designed to handle ambient light conditions and is immune to concurrent optical sensing systems. Through scanning triangulation and serialization depth acquisition, the system achieves low computational complexity as it eliminates the need for complex image stereo-matching.
In February 2024, the company acquired AR glass manufacturer EyeWay Vision’s IP portfolio. The company planned to integrate EyeWay Vision's technology with its own product, SPAES. This was expected to lead to power-efficient, low-latency, and accurate perception and interaction systems.
Funding and financials
In January 2024 completed the final phase of its seed funding round, raising EUR 3 million (~USD 3.3 million), led by SFPIM Relaunch. Funds were earmarked to bolster the company’s international growth, technology, and customer engagement. Funding will also be allocated to prepare for an upcoming Series A round to support the company's business ambitions.
