Space and Time offers a decentralized data warehouse, pre-loaded with indexed blockchain data from major chains such as Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Sui, and Avalanche. This warehouse enables the joining of tamper-proof on-chain data with off-chain data sets in an SQL format. The result can be published in smart contracts, decentralized applications, dashboards, business intelligence tools, and machine-learning models. A key component of Space and Time's technology is the Proof of SQL, a novel zero-knowledge cryptography that ensures the queries that run in its system are verifiably tamperproof.
The company claims the protocol can “execute analytic queries across over 100,000-row tables in less than a second on a single GPU." Proof of SQL can also be integrated with ZK virtual machines (zkVMs) and any SQL database (such as Google BigQuery) to provide verifiable source data. In June 2024, Space and Time launched “Proof of SQL” on GitHub.
Key customers and partnerships
Space and Time announced a partnership in March 2023 with Bitget, a crypto copy-trading platform, enabling Bitget to offer users higher levels of transparency of exchange operations with a verifiable audit trail of data and calculations. In April 2023, Space and Time announced a partnership with Microsoft to enable real-time blockchain data to be available to developers directly from Microsoft’s Azure Marketplace.
The company went on to integrate Chainlink, a blockchain middleware infrastructure provider, with its Proof of SQL cryptography technology in October 2023. Space and Time leveraged the Chainlink Network to run its zero-knowledge verifier natively on its nodes and provide consensus on the proof results. It expanded on its proof of SQL technology again in March 2024, via a partnership with Matter Labs, developer of the zkSync scaling solution for Ethereum. The company leveraged the partnership to launch its network as a zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) verifiable compute layer (VCL) on a zkSync hyperchain. Moreover, the partnership reportedly makes zkSync the first SQL-compatible smart contract platform.
In April 2024, the company expanded its partnership with Sui, a layer-1 blockchain initially developed by Mysten Labs and the Sui Foundation, to enhance data accessibility in the Sui ecosystem. The company leveraged the partnership to integrate Sui’s RPC 2.0 service, which uses GraphQL, into its existing data management solution and enable developers to index data from the Sui blockchain in real-time.
Funding and financials
The company raised USD 20 million in venture funding in September 2022, led by Microsoft’s M12 venture fund and other venture capital funds. The proceeds were used for product development and customer acquisition.
