Based in Germany and founded in 2022, Cylib is a spinoff from the RWTH Aachen University that has developed an end-to-end hydrometallurgical recycling process for the recovery of all valuable battery materials from lithium-ion batteries. The company claims that its process has up to a 90% recycling efficiency and can reuse CO2 emissions from the recycling process for the recovery of lithium and graphite, compared to conventional recycling processes.
In September 2023, Cylib commissioned its first pilot plant in Aachen, Germany, to implement its proprietary lithium-ion battery recycling technology. The facility would recycle ~500 kg of batteries per day initially.
Key customers and partnerships
In December 2023, cylib partnered with e.GO, a German producer of urban BEVs, to refine battery recycling processes and enhance resource recovery from used batteries.
Funding and financials
In October 2022, the company raised EUR 3.6 million (~USD 3.55 million) in seed funding led by Vsquared Ventures and Speedinvest to support the construction of a pilot plant in Aachen, Germany. The company, in February 2023, raised EUR 8 million (~USD 8.6 million) in an extended seed funding round led by World Fund.
