Soft Robotics offers robotic systems with soft-touch grippers enabling them to handle materials with the same dexterity and finesse as the human hand. Soft Robotics’s proprietary grasping technology is particularly useful in industries using soft materials such as food, consumer goods, and cosmetics manufacturing. The company has two main products, mGrip and Superpick. The former has an air-filled soft plastic design to enable versatility and provides an adaptable gripping solution. Superpick combines artificial intelligence and soft robotics to automate tasks such as bin picking and sorting, with little human intervention. The company also launched mGripAI in January 2022 targeting large-scale protein processors which was expanded to the consumer goods, ecommerce, and logistics sectors in May 2022.
With proprietary knowledge of material selection, actuator geometry, and operating envelope, its soft robotic technology has over 80 patents. The robotics can handle both hard and soft items with a single device with high precision and speed. Manufacturers can integrate such devices with a variety of robots, such as high-speed industrial packing cells and small collaborative robots. Soft Robotics has partnered with global robot manufacturers such as Universal Robots and FANUC. In the partnership with Universal Robots, Soft Robotics builds mGrip Cobot Kits specifically for its partner while also integrating technological capabilities with all Universal Robots as a Universal Robots Plus-certified product. In the partnership with FANUC, Soft Robotics mGrip adaptable gripper system has been integrated into FANUC robots via a controller.
Key customers and partnerships
Soft Robotics launched a Preferred System Integrator Program in 2021 with several partners including Quest Industrial, Assatec Robotics, Boston Conveyor & Automation Corporation, JMP Solutions, Applied Manufacturing Technologies, AMP Automation, SELO , and PATTYN France.
In February 2024, Soft Robotics partnered with Tompkins Solutions, a supply chain services company, to integrate Soft Robotics’ mGripAI technology into its warehouse operations.
Funding and financials
In November 2022, the company raised USD 26 million in a Series C funding round led by Tyson Ventures to expand commercial deployment of its mGripAI robotic picking solutions.
