Rohinni, founded in 2013, developed proprietary technology for miniLED and microLED applications in lighting and displays. The company's core innovation was a high-speed LED placement technology capable of positioning up to 100 components per second with 10-micron accuracy. This technology enabled the creation of ultra-thin, energy-efficient lighting solutions for various applications, including electronic displays, automotive lighting, and consumer electronics.
Rohinni's business model revolved around forming joint ventures with established manufacturers to bring its technology to market. In 2016, the company partnered with KoJa Cayman Co. Ltd. to form Luumii, which began mass production of LED-backlit laptop keyboards and logos in 2019. In 2018, Rohinni entered a joint venture with Magna Electronics to develop automotive lighting solutions. The company also formed a partnership with BOE Technology Group in 2019 to create BOE Pixey, focusing on large-format display backlighting for screens 32 inches and larger.
In 2022, Rohinni announced plans to release a new production machine called the r/series, capable of placing 100 micro-components per second. This machine was intended for use in manufacturing advanced electronic display panels. Despite these developments, Rohinni faced financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy in March 2024, marking the end of its operations.
Key customers and partnerships
Rohinni's joint venture with KoJa Cayman Co. Ltd., Luumii, supplied LED-backlit keyboards and logos to major notebook brands. By August 2019, Luumii had produced about 35,000 units for these customers, with plans to reach 100,000 units per month by 2020. The company's partnership with BOE Technology Group aimed to serve global customers in the display industry, including Apple and Samsung. Rohinni also collaborated with a studio prop company to create unique lighting products for film and television productions, such as a lightsaber prop. Through its various joint ventures, Rohinni's technology found applications in industries ranging from consumer electronics to automotive and industrial sectors.
