EmsanaRx is a public benefit corporation that operates as a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). It offers services that include negotiation with drug manufacturers and pharmacies to control drug spending, providing targeted insights for employers, and ensuring transparent, clear pricing. EmsanaRx is part of the Emsana Health group, which itself is a majority-owned subsidiary of the Purchaser Business Group on Health (PBGH), a coalition of major healthcare purchasers dedicated to lowering healthcare costs and improving quality. 

In May 2023, the company changed its name to AffirmedRx.

Key customers and partnerships

EmsanaRx primarily serves large, self-funded employers by partnering with them to deliver patient-centric pharmacy benefits. Moreover, AffirmedRx engages with brokers and consultants, helping them to simplify the Request for Proposal process, provide powerful tools and analytics, and ensure responsive service to develop client-specific strategies that lower costs and improve outcomes. 

In December 2022, EmsanaRx partnered with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, an online pharmacy, to develop a platform called EmsanaRx Plus, aimed at providing affordable prescription drugs. Focused on assisting employers, EmsanaRx Plus will sync with employer-led drug benefits, permitting employees to use their health insurance while purchasing medications through the platform.

In September 2022, EmsanaRx partnered with Cleveland Clinic, a leading healthcare provider, to maximize healthcare quality and affordability. This alliance aimed to align the clinical knowledge of Cleveland Clinic with the formulary development and aid management programs of EmsanaRx to enhance patient care, reduce prescription drug costs, and expansion of clinical programs. Also in March 2022, EmsanaRx partnered with RxSense, a healthcare technology company. Through this collaboration, EmsanaRx was to leverage RxSense's cloud-based technology and access to plan performance data to help employers make better purchasing decisions and efficiently tweak their benefits.
