France-based Carbon Maps develops an AI-based SaaS platform to assess the carbon footprint across the food industry. This platform collects carbon data across the entire food value chain from farmers to consumers.
Key customers and partnerships
The platform provides an assessment of consumer products, ingredients, and raw materials. It also calculates a variety of indicators including carbon footprint, biodiversity impact, water use, and animal welfare. The company evaluates the environmental impact of products and not companies, while offering eco ratings. Andros, Sodexo, Potel & Chabot, the Bel milk producer’s association and Foodles were among the company’s first few customers.
Funding and financials
The company’s latest funding round was in December 2023 , when it raised EUR 3 million (~USD 3.2 million) in a seed funding round led by Daphni. Carbon Maps intends to advance its SaaS platform with a new eco-score system for food-based CO2 emissions. In February 2023, the company raised EUR 4 million (USD 4.3 million) in a pre-seed funding round co-led by Breega and Samaipata. The funds were used to further develop the platform capabilities, for team expansion activities, and for expansion into other EU countries.
