Thumbtack is an online marketplace that connects homeowners with service providers to complete home improvement projects. Under its platform, the company offers about 500 types of services including maintenance (house cleaners, interior painters, handymen), remodeling (title professionals, flooring specialists, general contractors), and event management services such as catering. The company operates nationwide.

The company also offers Front Desk, which is an assistive service for small businesses that serve potential clients around the clock by responding with personalized automated messages. Thumbtack claims to achieve 20 percent higher job conversion and a 28 percent increase in customer satisfaction rating during the product trial of Front Desk.

Thumbtack generates revenue by selling credits to service providers so they can send price quotes to potential customers over the platform. As of 2019, the company claimed that 15 million households used its platform. Since June 2020, the company has reported revenue growth of over 50% year-over-year. In 2023, the company’s revenue surpassed USD 300 million. 

In December 2020, the company acquired the home management platform Setter for an undisclosed amount to expand its product offering.

Key customers and partnerships

In June 2023, Thumbtack partnered with Scorpion, a B2B marketing and advertisingI, to integrate Scorpion’s advertising and communications technology with its platform to offer better lead response times and allow home services professionals streamline its business activities. The prior year in October, Thumbtack partnered with Signpost, a CRM platform that allows businesses to automate and manage client communications. Thumbtack was to deploy these automation features to its own client communications ro enable users to receive instant replies on inbound inquiries that can help to convert leads into home servicing jobs. In December 2021, the company formed a strategic partnership with HomeBinder, a centralized home management platform that employs authorized home servicing professionals. The joint venture allows homeowners registered on HomeBinder’s platform to have wider reach and connect with local servicing professionals This would enable service providers listed under Thumbtack to gain access to a wider customer base.
