Proxima, a company with operations in the US and Canada, is the creator of the social sandbox metaverse, Lumari. The company was founded by Ran Mo, a former lead product manager at Electronic Arts (EA), who contributed to the development of The Sims, a major EA video game franchise. The Proxima team consists of five industry veterans from notable game companies such as Riot, Storm8, Wildlife Studios, and Unity.
Lumari, a centralized platform, does not incorporate NFTs or blockchain technology. The game allows players and their companions to craft items, construct structures, explore the world, and combat enemies. It seeks to offer interactive features similar to other sandbox games, enabling players to visit each other, engage in chats, and collaborate on building projects. Players can also collect creatures that serve as pet companions, construct homes and habitats, cultivate gardens, and explore a virtual world. The game emphasizes customization, allowing players to personalize characters and creatures.
The full launch of the game, which will include multiplayer features, was not anticipated until 2025 or later.
