Isometric is a UK-based carbon removal standard and registry using science-based carbon data. The company provides a framework for carbon credit suppliers, buyers, and scientists to improve the transparency and efficiency of the carbon removal industry. The company's science platform allows suppliers to upload their project data for the scientific community to verify and build protocols; then, the Isometric Registry publishes verified carbon removal credits for buyers. The registry excludes avoidance credits or projects with temporary CO2 storage.
In October 2023, the company launched its Isometric Standard, which establishes criteria for verifying credits of durable carbon removals. The standard addresses requirements for crediting, retirement, reversals, and buffer pools of such credits. In December 2023, the company launched a protocol for direct air capture (DAC) and geological carbon storage in bio-oil. The company has introduced each protocol in a modular structure to consider the capture, feedstocks, life cycle assessment, and storage methods of the suppliers.
Key customers and partnerships
Isometric’s initial carbon credit suppliers include Charm Industrial (bio-oil sequestration), Eion (rock weathering), Planetary (ocean alkalinity enhancement), and Brilliant Planet (microalgae burial) from different carbon capture and storage mechanisms. In October 2023, Isometric partnered with Deep Sky, a Canadian carbon removal project developer, to establish an MRV protocol for the latter's carbon removal process. In February 2024, the company also collaborated with WSP, a global engineering and professional services firm, and RMI, a climate solutions non-profit, to explore carbon dioxide removal in mining operations.
Funding and financials
The company’s most recent funding round was in July 2023, when it raised USD 25 million in a seed round led by Lowercarbon Capital and Plural with several angel investors. The company reserved the funding to enhance its carbon removal registry and science platform by recruiting scientists and technologists to the team.
