American BioCarbon is a carbon removal and renewable bioproducts company that manufactures biocarbon-derived fuel pellets from sugarcane bagasse. Its patented biomass separation technology produces biochar, absorbent pellets, and fuel pellets. Syngas, produced as a byproduct in this process, is used to power the carbonizing and drying of pellets. The company provides biochar for agribusiness, retail outlets, and commercial customers as a soil amendment and a carbon sequestration tool.
In August 2023, American BioCarbon launched ecommerce sales for bagasse products for non-commercial customers. In September 2023, the company released High Seas bagasse, a soil amendment product made with ocean byproducts, for online sale.
Key customers and partnerships
American BioCarbon collaborates with local sugar mill owners and sugar growers to provide biomass separation units integrated into their operations to obtain a continuous supply of feedstock. In November 2021, American BioCarbon partnered with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to study the viability of biochar as an agricultural amendment on sugar cane growing lands.
In September 2022, the company partnered with Puro.earth to obtain an audit certification to verify American BioCarbon’s biochar to sell CO2 removal certificates (CORCs). In September 2023, American BioCarbon received commercial pre-certification for its CORCs from Puro.earth.
