The UAE's Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. has signed an agreement with French major TotalEnergies to explore joint collaboration in carbon capture and storage and low-carbon hydrogen as OPEC's third biggest oil producer seeks to meet its net zero emissions pledge by 2050.ADNOC, the UAE's biggest energy company, currently has the capacity to capture 800,000 tons of CO2 annually. The company plans to expand the capacity sixfold by capturing CO2 from its own gas plants, with the aim of reaching 5 million tons of CO2 capture each year by 2030.TotalEnergies is developing two carbon capture projects in Europe .The Northern Lights project, in which Shell and Equinor are partners, will develop new carbon capture projects in Norway and elsewhere in Europe. A consortium of TotalEnergies, Macquarie’ Green Investment Group (GIG) and Scottish developer Renewable Infrastructure Development Group (RIDG) is submitting plans to use offshore wind to produce green hydrogen at a crude oil terminal in the Orkney Islands.The Offshore Wind Power Limited (OWPL) consortium was formed in June to bid in the Crown Estate Scotland’s offshore wind leasing round (ScotWind). If successful, the West of Orkney wind project could deliver renewable power to a green hydrogen production facility of undisclosed capacity at the Flotta Terminal in Orkney off the northern coast of mainland Scotland.     Flotta Terminal’s owner Repsol Sinopec and energy major Uniper are also collaborating on the proposal. It is also supported locally by hydrogen innovation and demonstration centre EMEC Hydrogen.

Offshore Wind Power Limited (OWPL), the consortium formed by Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, TotalEnergies and Scottish developer Renewable Infrastructure Development Group (RIDG) has announced it is studying the use of offshore wind to power the production of green hydrogen on an industrial scale on the island of Flotta in Orkney, Scotland. Plans to power the proposed Flotta Hydrogen Hub are being developed by OWPL in partnership with Flotta Terminal’s owner Repsol Sinopec, and Uniper, a leading international energy company and pioneer in the field of hydrogen. If successful, the proposal could deliver renewable power to a green hydrogen production facility at the Flotta Terminal.

After a first long-haul flight fueled by French-made SAF in May, this is a further realization by Air France and TotalEnergies towards supporting and developing the production of SAF. The biofuel used for this flight was produced by TotalEnergies from used cooking oils at its biorefinery of La (Bouches-du-Rhône) and its plant at Oudalle.

A consortium of TotalEnergies, Macquarie’s Green Investment Group and Scottish developer RIDG has announced their bid for an offshore wind project in an area west of the Orkney Islands. The two-gigawatt proposal, named the West of Orkney Windfarm, has the potential to power more than two million homes and is currently being assessed by the Crown Estate Scotland as part of the ScotWind leasing round. An exclusive Memorandum of Understanding has also been signed with the European Marine Energy Centre on Orkney (EMEC), formalising a long-standing relationship in technical innovation and environmental data collection, building on EMEC’s unique marine energy research and development facilities and expertise.

TotalEnergies and Safran have signed a strategic partnership agreement to jointly develop technical and commercial solutions for the decarbonization of the aviation industry. In the short term, the partnership aims to make current engines compatible with fuel containing up to 100% SAF. Longer term, it will then work to optimize engine/fuel energy efficiency and environmental performance. This collaboration may extend to other fields, such as adapting fuel systems to SAF or developing new-generation battery systems for electric motors.

TotalEnergies will supply 50 GWh per year of renewable electricity over a period of 15 years.
