 Gevo is a renewable chemicals and advanced biofuels company based in Colorado. The company uses residual starch from inedible field corn that is produced using regenerative and precision farming practices. This feedstock is used to produce high-value protein and isobutanol, a primary building block for renewable hydrocarbons, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable gasoline, and renewable diesel.  In 2021, Gevo began developing its Net-Zero 1 Project using 240 acres of land near Lake Preston, South Dakota. The plant is expected to produce ~65 million gallons per year of liquid hydrocarbons in the form of jet fuel and renewable gasoline.
 
 
 The company also operates a renewable natural gas (RNG) project in Northwest Iowa that produces biogas and injects it into pipelines. The project captures RNG from dairy cow manure that is supplied by three dairy farms located in Northwest Iowa with over 20,000 cows. Ambri develops and manufactures cost-effective liquid metal batteries when compared to lithium-ion batteries. Ambri’s liquid metal battery comprises a liquid calcium alloy anode, a molten salt electrolyte, and a cathode composed of solid particles of antimony, enabling the use of inexpensive materials and streamlined steps in the cell assembly process. Ambri batteries were invented at the Group Sadoway lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).&nbsp;The Ambri battery platform comes as a ready-to-install DC containerized system, with shelves of cells, thermal management, a weatherproof outer enclosure, and a battery management system. The system can then be coupled to the grid using standard industrial DC-AC bi-directional inverters.Notably, Ambri’s batteries have 4 to 24 hours of energy storage capacity and can last for over 20 years with minimal degradation. In June 2022, the company began construction of a new 140,000 sq.ft. manufacturing facility in Milford, Massachusetts with a capacity of 200,000 battery cells per year. Orbital Marine Power (formerly Scotrenewables) is a Scottish developer of tidal turbine technology. The company uses floating vessels, which are moored in powerful tidal streams or river currents, allowing the underwater rotors to capture the flow and convert it to energy.Orbital Marine Power’s lineup of products includes the SR2000 and the O2, with the 2 MW O2 claimed to be the most powerful tidal turbine in the world. The O2 is currently anchored in the Fall of Warness at the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC), providing energy to the local electricity grid of Orkney via subsea cables. It is a 74 m long floating superstructure, that supports two 1 MW turbines on either side for power output of 2 MW. It is capable of generating enough electricity to meet the demand of ~2,000 UK homes.&nbsp;Key customers and partnershipsOrbital Marine Power’s tidal turbine tech was developed through a strategic partnership with Designworks. The project was also backed by the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the FloTEC (Floating Tidal Energy Commercialisation) project.&nbsp;In March 2023, Orbital was awarded an option agreement from Crown Estate Scotland for a new 30 MW tidal energy project in the Westray Firth. Under this, the company would deploy 12 Orbital devices. Aquion Energy was a Pennsylvania-Washington D.C. based company that manufactured proprietary Aqueous Hybrid Ion (AHI) batteries and energy storage systems. These saltwater batteries used sodium ions and employed widely available materials like carbon, cotton, saltwater, and manganese oxide as the primary inputs. Aquion's technology was optimized for stationary and long-duration daily cycling applications such as off-grid systems, microgrids, energy management, and grid-scale energy storage. The non-toxic and safe nature of the batteries, combined with their ability to be fully discharged without harm, made them suitable for renewable energy integration and reduced reliance on fossil fuels. Aquion aimed to provide low-cost and sustainable energy storage solutions.
In March 2017, after facing financial difficulties, Aquion Energy filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and ceased operations, sales, and manufacturing. The company was subsequently acquired by a Chinese-affiliated entity, Juline-Titans LLC, for USD 9 million in June 2017. Following the acquisition, Aquion closed its Pennsylvania plant in September 2017 and reportedly moved operations to China with the new owners intending to scale up by targeting larger commercial clients.

In February 2022, Sunverge partnered with Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), the largest electric utility in Illinois, to provide a battery energy storage solution for an innovative front-of-the-meter residential project. SparkMeter, founded in 2013, provides grid management solutions tailored to emerging markets and utilities seeking to modernize their electrical infrastructure. The company offers smart metering systems and software that enable microgrids and distribution utilities to improve operations, achieve financial sustainability, and deliver reliable electricity, particularly in underserved areas. SparkMeter's technology combines real-time data streams from the edge of utility networks with detailed grid models to create "digital twins" that enhance visibility and control.
The company's plug-and-play solution includes smart meters, integrated communications, and cloud-based software platforms like Koios and ThunderCloud.  Sunfire offers systems for renewable hydrogen, syngas, and e-fuel production. Its &ldquo;Hylink&rdquo; high-temperature electrolyzers are based on alkaline and solid oxide electrolyzer cells (SOEC) technologies for hydrogen production. Its alkaline Hylink electrolyzer, with a scalable design, can produce 2,230 normal cubic meters of hydrogen per hour (Nm&sup3;/h), at a gauge pressure of 30 bar (barg), with a power consumption of 4.7 kilowatt hours per normal cubic meter (kWh/Nm&sup3;). Its SOEC system, with a modular design, can produce 750 Nm&sup3;/h hydrogen with a power consumption of 3.6 kWh/Nm&sup3;.
 
 
 In 2014, Sunfire also opened a demonstration Power-to-Liquid (PtL) production plant in Dresden, Germany to produce renewable e-fuels. Also, in June 2020, Sunfire joined forces with a consortium of companies led by Norway-based Norsk e-Fuel to build Europe&rsquo;s first commercial plant for hydrogen-based renewable aviation fuel in Norway. The plant is planned to be operational by 2024.&nbsp;
 
 
 In November 2023, Sunfire announced that it would invest EUR 30 million (USD 32 million) in its Dresden headquarters over the next few years to expand its R&amp;D center, including prototype manufacturing. Earlier that year, Sunfire commenced serial production of electrolyzers, expanding its proven electroplating line and commissioning a 500 MW facility. In December 2023, Sunfire partnered with Fraunhofer IFAM, a non-university institution focused on applied research and the development and qualification of materials for alkaline stacks, to develop an anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer in the upper double-digit kW range for industrial-scale application.

Sunfire is responsible for overseeing the installation and commissioning of the system, which is expected to be operational in early 2026.
