Baichuan Intelligence

Baichuan Intelligence is a Chinese AI that develops large language models (LLMs). Founded in April 2023 by Wang Xiaochuan, the former Sogou founder, the company has quickly progressed since its inception. The company offers several LLMs, including: 

1) Baichuan2-53B: Released in September 2023 , this is a closed-source model that integrates intention-understanding, information retrieval, and reinforcement learning technology. The model claims to have mathematical and logical reasoning abilities.

2) Baichuan2-13B: An open-source commercial model with 13 billion parameters. It is trained on substantial amounts of Chinese and English data, optimized for commercial use, and designed to run on consumer-grade hardware, like NVIDIA’s 3090 graphic cards.

3) Baichuan2-7B: An open-source commercial model with seven billion parameters.

4) Baichuan2-192k: Launched in October 2023, the model’s main function includes a "context window" that can manage around 350,000 Chinese characters in one instance. Other significant features include its understanding and summarizing proficiency, specifically for extended texts.

5) Baichuan 3: Released in January 2024 , the model’s key features include Chinese medical tasks and Chinese literary compositions adhering to the rhythm, format, and expressive quality of traditional Chinese literature.

Funding and financials 

In October 2023, Baichuan raised USD 300 million from investors, including Alibaba, Xiaomi, and Tencent, valuing the company at over USD 1 billion.
