Today is a Web3 social metaverse where players can create virtual islands and in-game assets via no-code tools and interact with GenAI-powered non-player characters (NPCs) called "Residents." The company allows users to care for these Residents, drawing inspiration from social simulation games such as The Sims and Animal Crossing. In May 2024, the company launched Dreamia, which utilizes AI to facilitate realistic non-player characters (NPCs) that provide interactive responses shaped by the player's actions. Key features include deep personalities for NPCs, contextual awareness, sustained memory, emotional intelligence, and procedural animation.
Users were aimed to have ownership of all content created on the platform, although the company was yet to disclose details of the functioning of its in-game economy (April 2024). Additionally, Today sought to deliver exclusive content to players via NFTs, allowing users to craft virtual worlds. The rarity of these NFTs would affect the island's appearance, residents' characteristics, and access to upcoming collaborations, rewards, and special items.
The company aimed to launch its platform in alpha by early 2025, with regular playtests scheduled via its Discord channel until that time.
Funding and financials
In April 2024, the company raised USD 5 million in a seed funding round led by Sfermion and Big Brain. The funds were earmarked to bolster the game's GenAI non-player characters (NPCs) and no-code creation tools.
