NewMoo, founded in 2021, is an Israeli food tech company specializing in the development of animal-free dairy products. The company emerged from stealth in May 2024, having developed a liquid casein base that claims to mimic the functionalities of cow's milk in traditional cheese production.
NewMoo leverages molecular farming technology to develop casein protein in soy plants that are then used to create plant-based cheese. According to the company, this alternative casein is designed to be a cost-effective replacement that can be seamlessly integrated into existing manufacturing processes. Furthermore, despite involving genetic engineering processes, the final product is free from DNA residues, eliminating the need for a GMO label.
Funding and financials
As of May 2024, the company has raised USD 7 million in seed funding backed by Lool and Zora Ventures. These funds were used for expanding the leadership team, R&D processes for seeds, and downstream processing of its liquid casein for cheese production.
