Miyoko’s Creamery produces butter and cheese alternatives from plant-based ingredients, such as cashews and oats, with a similar taste and texture to its counterparts, including cheese wheels, cheddar, pepper jack, cream cheese, mozzarella, and butter. The company uses conventional butter and cheesemaking techniques to manufacture its products for proprietary animal-free cheese cultures. The founder, Miyoko Shinner, is a renowned vegan chef and the author of a well-known vegan cookbook, “Artisan Vegan Cheese.”

As of August 2021, the company’s products were available in 30,000 stores in the US, Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong, and Singapore. In the US, Miyoko’s Creamery products are available in Whole Foods Markets, Targets, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Fred Meyer, Natural Grocers, Raley's, Oliver's Market, Wegmans, Smith’s, Kroger, and ShopRite stores. The company plans to expand into conventional grocery, club, and food services as its next step for the US market. Miyoko’s European Style Butter was the top-selling plant-based butter in US grocery stores in the year ending on July 11, 2021.

In Septemebrt 2023 , the company expanded its portfolio with Plant Milk Cheese Spreads, available at various retail partners nationwide. The spreads are made using organic cultured cashew milk and traditional cheese-making techniques and is available in Classic Chive, Garlic Herb, Roadhouse Cheddar, and Sundried Tomato varieties.

In May 2023 , Miyoko’s Creamery partnered with America’s largest food distributor DOT Foods, to expand its distribution into the food service sector.

Funding and financials

In its August 2021 Series C funding round, the company raised USD 52 million led by PowerPlant Partners with a USD 40 million contribution. Cult Capital, Obvious Ventures, Stray Dog and CPT Capital also participated in the round. The company earmarked the funding for advancing its product innovation and distribution efforts and to explore higher nutrient density, performance, and flavor. The company also plans to launch a liquid pizza mozzarella that it claims pours like sauce and stretches once baked.
