Hapag-Lloyd AG (FWB: HLAG) is one of the world's leading container liner shipping companies. Founded in 1970 through the merger of Hamburg America Line and Norddeutscher Lloyd, Hapag-Lloyd is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. The company operates a global network of 114 services, connecting over 600 ports worldwide.

Hapag-Lloyd's core business encompasses container shipping from port to port using both owned and chartered vessels, as well as associated hinterland transport from door to door. The company's fleet consists of 287 container vessels with a total transport capacity of 2.2 million TEU as of June 2024. Hapag-Lloyd offers a wide range of shipping solutions including dry cargo, reefer cargo, dangerous goods, and special cargo. The company also provides container services, with approximately 1.9 million owned and leased containers at its disposal, representing a capacity of 3.2 million TEU.

In August 2023, Hapag-Lloyd expanded its business activities by acquiring SAAM Ports S.A. and SAAM Logistics S.A., establishing a new Terminal & Infrastructure segment. This segment includes stakes in 20 terminals across Europe, Latin America, the US, India, and North Africa. Hapag-Lloyd has also been focusing on sustainability initiatives, aiming to be net-zero carbon by 2045. In April 2024, the company announced new targets to cut costs by 20% per container and reduce carbon emissions intensity by 50% by 2030. To achieve these goals, Hapag-Lloyd is investing in larger, more efficient vessels and exploring alternative propulsion technologies, including a concept study for a 4,500 TEU ship with a wind-assisted propulsion system.
