Founded in 2003, Absorb Software develops Absorb LMS, a learning management system (LMS) for businesses, higher education, government, and non-profit organizations; Absorb Infuse, a learning experience platform (LXP); and other tools.
Absorb Software made three acquisitions in 2019: Torch LMS, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) LMS provider; eLogic Learning, an LMS provider, developer of custom e-learning content, and provider of a third-party courseware library; and ePath Learning, a provider of learning management technology, off-the-shelf content, and custom course design and development services.
In December 2020, the company announced Absorb Create LI (LI stands for integrated LMS integrated), a course authoring tool that brings together templates, conditional branching, and interactive elements and games to help organizations to create and update e-learning content. Absorb Create LI was added to its portfolio following the company's acquisition of Koantic in August 2020 and will be available to all Absorb customers and also as a stand-alone product.
In March 2021, Absorb Software launched Absorb Intelligence, a new suite of artificial intelligence tools incorporating machine learning, natural language recognition, automation, and optimization algorithms. A key feature is Absorb Intelligent Assist, which allows LMS administrators to generate reports or perform tasks using natural language written requests. In May 2021, private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe (WCAS) acquired Absorb Software from Silversmith Capital Partners—the growth equity firm that acquired Absorb in 2017 for CAD 59 million (USD 47 million)—in a deal valuing the company at more than CAD 630 million (USD 500 million). The funds will be used for product innovation, mergers, and acquisitions.
