Strados Labs

Philadelphia-based Strados Labs is a digital stethoscope manufacturing startup. The company’s device monitors the lung sounds and alerts the user of the wheezing sounds to manage patient symptoms at an early stage and avoid the risk of asthma attacks.

In December 2020, the company received the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its flagship product, the RESP (remote e-stethoscope platform), and plans to apply for the CE Mark from EU regulators in 2021. The RESP system consists of a lung sound monitor, or e-stethoscope, and connected platform, allowing physicians to identify breathing abnormalities. The non-invasive wearable device continuously collects lung sounds in real-time, and its proprietary software autonomously detects changes in lung sounds and respiratory patterns. The company’s clinical portal integrates with existing clinical trial databases and patient records for medical decision-making purposes.

Key customers and partnerships

As of May 2021, Strados Labs had collaborated with accelerators and partners including Ben Franklin Technology Partners, SOSV and NEXTFAB. In March 2023 , the company partnered with healthcare research technology company Clario to offer its FDA-approved RESP Biosensor wearable device in clinical trials.

Funding and financials

In January 2022, the company raised USD 4.5 million in a Pre-Series A funding round to further enhance its RESP Smart Sensor technology, conduct decentralized clinical trials via pharmaceutical partnerships, as well as to improve its proprietary lung sound and breathing pattern database to develop acoustic biomarker standards. The company also plans to expand its disease coverage by adding heart failure to its list, in late 2022.
