Based in Israel, Wiliot provides self-powered sensor tags that look like stickers and can be attached to medicine, food, or agricultural products. These tags provide the manufacturer or retailer with product information such as location, humidity, and freshness. The information is stored on a cloud that users can access via the Wiliot platform and receive real-time transparency updates. As of October 2024, Wiliot claimed that its sensing stickers can reduce food waste by 40%.
The company operates a Sensing-as-a-Service business targeting food brands and retailers. The first version of the sensor tag, called Wiliot V1.0, was launched in 2019. In 2020, the tags were further developed to integrate with Bluetooth devices and improve the ability to access information from devices that have Bluetooth connectivity. In November 2021, the V2.0 upgraded version of the tag was unveiled, which enhanced the versatility and accuracy of the product.
The company planned to provide the tags at a cost of USD 500 per developer kit and is working with large retail companies to commercialize its product and expected to mass produce by the end of 2021. In January 2023, Wiliot announced the launch of its Innovation Kit, which helps to track the location and temperature of a range of goods.
