NEG8 Carbon is an Irish DAC startup that develops modular plug-and-play carbon capture units. The company is a spin-off of Trinity Green Energies, an R&D company, from Trinity College in Dublin. In August 2023, the company tested its prototype DAC unit, capturing 1.2 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
The company is in the development phase of its DAC units, with a capacity to capture 400 tonnes of CO2 per annum. The company is in the process of commercializing its DAC technology. NEG8 Carbon plans to produce its first modular DAC unit by late 2024. The company also plans to install 25,000 DAC units across Ireland, capturing 10 million tons of CO2 per annum by 2035.
Key customers and partnerships
In February 2024, the company partnered with DeepSky, a Canadian carbon removal project developer, to test its 300-ton DAC Air Processing Unit at the latter’s Alpha Lab test facility in Quebec. In June 2024, NEG8 Carbon and the Walton Institute, an Irish R&D center focused on ICT, partnered to optimize the former’s carbon capture technology to leverage AI-based DAC technologies.
