UK-based Academy of Robotics (AoR) develops an ADV called “Kar-go,” which combines AI and driverless technology to operate on public roads. For added safety and security, AoR monitors vehicles remotely via its Command Hub and employs cameras, sensors, and software logs to determine the vehicle’s position, allowing remote drivers to monitor and control the vehicles if necessary. The Kar-go can travel at a maximum speed of 60 mph with up to 48 parcels in a single run.
The company obtained the license to operate its ADVs in the UK in October 2020. The company has tested its ADVs to deliver items in areas such as Hounslow (Greater London), Surrey, Milton Keynes, and Oxfordshire in the UK.
Funding and financials
AoR launched a pre-Series A funding round targeting to raise GBP 20 million (USD 27 million) in March 2022. The company intended to utilize the funds to scale production and expand its service.
