CollectiveCrunch is a Finland-based developer of an AI-powered platform, Linda Forest, which provides climate, geospatial, and process data fed into AI models to better predict forest inventories and monitor carbon storage in forests for carbon trading markets. The company has offices in Germany and Finland. As of August 2023, Linda Forest covered 23 million hectares of forest. Seven of the top 10 Nordic forestry companies use Linda Forest solutions.

Linda Forest uses custom AI models and analytics to manage inventories at the cell and compartment level. It also identifies potential buying and timber harvesting areas, reducing the need for extensive field visits and enabling more informed and timely pricing decisions. Linda Forest claims to improve the accuracy of timber supply forecasts by taking into account seasons and helps mitigate value loss by monitoring changes and potential damage within forests. The platform uses over 100 multi-layered datasets, such as optical satellite, LiDAR, SAR, and harvester and climate data. The data is used to build machine-learning models that provide forestry insights.

In April 2023, CollectiveCrunch launched Linda Planet, an AI-based tool that enables forestry professionals to assess the health of forests by monitoring and tracking changes in forest biodiversity and carbon storage in near real-time, and helping to predict the growth and loss of forest carbon stocks.

Key customers and partnerships

• In June 2023, CollectiveCrunch advanced its partnership with Metsä Group to develop an advanced AI-based solution that enables early detection of bark beetle outbreaks and near real-time monitoring of storm damage in forest ecosystems. Metsä Group was in the final stages of integrating and piloting the product, with customer access available that following August.

• In May 2023, the company initiated its first forest carbon partnership in the US market by launching a pilot project with the Oregon State University College of Forestry to provide remotely gathered data for future forest management decisions.

• In March 2023, the company partnered with Luontoa Consulting to launch a joint product development project to accelerate the automated identification of ecologically valuable areas and the planning of forestry actions.

• In February 2024, CollectiveCrunch partnered with Ponsse for a EUR 1 million (~USD 1.1million) project to create a step-change in the way forests are inventoried and monitored.

The company’s notable customers include Metsähallitus, Sveaskog, Tornator, LähiTapiola, RMK, Stora Enso, and UPM.
