Cityblock Health

Cityblock is a tech-driven primary healthcare provider predominantly targeting less privileged communities (for Medicaid and lower-income Medicare beneficiaries). It offers personalized, around-the-clock primary care and behavioral care in partnership with health insurers and community-based organizations to bring care closer to people in underserved communities.

Cityblock’s care delivery platform, “Commons,” connects patients with community health providers and leverages data from various sources such as electronic health records, insurance claims, health information exchanges, pharmacies, and through interactions with the platform for decision support in delivering care. The platform enables care providers to communicate and monitor a patient's progress via its virtual healthcare model. 

The services of Cityblock are available to members at no additional cost if they are covered by an eligible health plan. As of March 2021, Cityblock catered to more than 70,000 patients. As of August 2021, the company was available in five states on the East Coast.

Key Customers and Partnerships

In September 2022, Cityblock Health partnered with Indiana-based healthcare company MDwise to open care clinics for its members. Prior to that, the company had partnered with insurance providers such as ConnectiCare (Connecticut), Tufts Health Plan (Massachusetts), Emblem Health (New York), Healthy Blue (North Carolina), Molina Healthcare (Ohio) and CareFirst (Washington DC). 

Funding and Financials

Cityblock is a spin-off of Sidewalk Labs, an Alphabet company that incubates and invests in tech companies and products to improve urban infrastructure. It completed a USD 400 million Series D funding round led by Softbank in September 2021, valuing the company at USD 5.7 billion. The company plans to enhance accessibility to its services, increase its membership base, and expand its geographical presence to North Carolina and Ohio with the funds raised.
